My First Pub Sunday Roast

If you’ve ready my previous post “New Beginnings”, you know I have been in the UK since 2014 and yet, I have never had a Sunday Roast before. Unbelievable, right?! 🙂 Well, I now stand corrected! I had my first pub Sunday roast yesterday whoop whoop

My friends and I catch up on a regular basis and we take turns choosing venues in the areas we live in. This time, it was the turn of my friend living in North London and she chose a lovely pub. Next destination South East London Suburbia! 🙂

But I digress… back to North London…

Some might think, come on, “it’s just food” or “it’s just a pub lunch” but for me is more about the whole experience and all about the company 🙂 Had a lovely time catching up with friends. I appreciate you! You know who you are x

Woke up excited about trying something new. It was quite a journey to get to the pub ha ha ha… Had to change one bus, two tube lines and take a stroll. Having said that, it only took an hour…. as you do in London 🙂 I was a bit nervous about riding the tube again. I forgot how stuffy it can get sometimes. This is why I prefer the train to the tube.

The venue is called The Crown in Islington, a nice Fuller’s pub @crownislington .

I ordered my favourite drink this time of the year… Aperol Sprit.

One of us decided to go for the Dry-Aged Sirloin of Owton’s Beef and two of us for the Roast Norfolk Chicken.

The lovely (I was told) Dry-Aged Sirloin of Owton’s Beef. Might try this one next time! 🙂

Followed closely and bettered, in my opinion, by my Roast Norfolk Chicken! The chicken was nice and juicy, just the right amount of crispiness, the roast potatoes were crunchy on the outside and soft and smooth on the inside. Good idea to keep the pork, apricot & chestnut stuffing on the side for those who maybe don’t fancy it that much. The cauliflower cheese was just the right amount, not too much, with the cabbage nice and crispy and accompanied by a glossy and subtle red wine gravy. And to top it all off, the crunchy Yorkshire pudding.

I had desert covered this time! I surprised my friends each with a slice of a traditional Romanian Easter pudding called Pasca (similar to a cheesecake). They were really excited to try it when they got home. One of my friends really enjoyed it with some morning coffee today! 🙂

It was lovely to be out and about again, spending time with friends, being out in the sunshine. Looking forward to the next meet up! I’ll keep you posted on the next culinary exploration 🙂
